There are many ways to be frugal with your money, but what do you do when you have been frugal, and have reached the point of Just Plain Broke?
I’ll tell you what I do. Nothing. No really, I try to do absolutely nothing. When I am just plain broke, the days are really boring and sometimes depressing. But, if you do nothing, you don’t spend money.
First of all, by doing nothing I mean I don’t spend money on anything. I go to work and go home and eat what is in my cabinets. Sometimes, that means ramen noodles. As a matter of fact, I hate ramen noodles and I know you do too. So I try to change up my desperation foods a little bit so that I am not so disgusted with even trying to stay alive.
What super cheap meals do you recommend when you are Just Plain Broke?
Here’s What I Eat When I Am Just Plain Broke
Peanut Butter and Jelly – All time life saver! All the ingredients are fairly inexpensive and you can eat PB&J for days!
Ramen Noodles and Crackers – Must have crackers. This is an added expense for this dish, but definitely worth the money.
Quick Nachos – Tortilla chips, re fried beans with a little taco seasoning, topped with cheddar cheese, sour cram and hot sauce.
Corn Dogs – Yuck! Frozen corn dogs are cheap and will last a few days if you only have a couple each day, but definitely not appetizing.
Chili – There is always a sale on chili at the grocery store. Add your favorite toppings like onions and cheddar cheese and you have dinner. This too, I must have crackers or corn chips with. Oh, and the hot sauce, can’t forget the hot sauce.
Pizza – Red Baron pizza is usually around the $4.00 price point and it can feed 2 for a meal. Not the best pizza around, but it does the job.
What do you do to pass the time when you are Just Plain Broke?
How I fight boredom during Just Plain Broke times:
Reading-The public library is a great place to visit when you are just plain broke. Grab some movies, use the internet, get a few books to last you through the tough times.
Facebook-I am addicted to Facebook. Sometimes, I spend hours just reading posts and playing my favorite game: Cookie Jam.
Cleaning and Organizing-I use my just plain broke days to clean my living space and take advantage of the extra time that I have to organize any paperwork that I have put aside for a rainy day. Nothing makes me feel better than decluttering!
Listening to My Favorite Music-Sometimes I just pull up YouTube and listen to all my favorite songs. It’s fun to watch the videos that I haven’t seen in a long time and the music helps to soothe my depression.
